The Stories Behind the Stories

The best way to learn anything is direct from those who’ve already done it. So, here’s a starter selection of in-depth interviews with a nice mix of the UK’s first wave of scripted podcasts. More will follow over time (each announced in the blog or via the newsletter).

We focused on the experience of making a show - the good and the bad. The highs will hopefully inspire and enthuse others, while the lows forewarn not everything will be easy, or quick, or fun - and even those most successful now are happy to admit making plenty of boring, annoying, embarrassing mistakes along the way.
You can, too! And maybe we’ll be interviewing you, one day…

Each talk traces the show’s journey from an initial spark - through the building of the creative team - to skills learnt, mistakes made and momentum maintained. You’ll find plenty of practical tips - but also all-too-human peaks and troughs, behind the scenes.

Of course, not everyone has the time, energy or inclination to create their own series from scratch - it’s a huge undertaking, even with collaborators.

And so, at the end of each interview is a selection of talks with contributors to the shows - mostly actors at the moment, but I’m working on expanding that.
